7 MAJOR REASONS WHY PEOPLE MARRY
An institution that primarily helps build, foster and replenish the society is one that shouldn’t be taken with levity and rushed into. Some get it right and some have it so bad. It is no surprise if one wonders why people enter a union that could make or mar them. Below are the reasons why people marry.
1. TO AVOID PROMISCUITY AND FOR CONSISTENT SEX
This is common among religious individuals, extremely dedicated Christians and Muslims marry early so as to avoid living a wayward life. So they tie the knots with the aim of remaining dedicated to their faith. Pious men and women (the types that are virgins till marriage), also marry with the aim of getting consistent sex for the rest of their lives.
2. AGE AND PRESSURE
This is more common in women, as society suggests that it is better to marry early. So when this women approach their thirties, they succumb to the increasing pressure to get married and settle for Mr. available, who is often not Mr. right but it becomes too late when they realize. Some don’t even ‘love’ the guy, but believe he is responsible and that they’ll grow to love him. Men are also susceptible to pressures from their family, particularly when they’re getting too old.
3. CHASING THE FAIRYTALE DREAM:
Some people are just obsessed with the idea of falling in love and getting married. They’ve dreamt of it all through their childhood and can hardly live without being in a relationship. Being single is unbearable for them. These are the kind of individuals that fantasize about how cute their children will look, even in the early stages of the relationships. They’re fascinated by what the entire internet and social media feed them with: pre-wedding shoot pictures, cute pictures of couples and their kids etc. So they marry because it is a dream come true for them.
4. GREENER PASTURES
A lady is a potential mother and a home builder, with this in mind; she will always strive to look for a man of capable means. Yet some women are just downright greedy or are gold diggers. These women (especially the ones with no ambition) marry because of financial support; so one man can just step in and take care of all her needs. To be fair, though very rare, guys also marry for the money and for citizenship.
5. IT IS THE SOCIETAL NORM:
Most religious beliefs support marriage and society promotes it as well. In our society, with the exemption of being a clergyman, you’ll be looked down on if you don’t marry. So many people marry because they feel it’s the right thing to do.
6. AMBITION AND ALLIANCES:
This practice has always been in existence since the inception of marriage. Most times it is families getting united to families not love meeting love. People marry for business alliances, family alliances, political alliances, regional alliances etc. Some individuals marry because they share common/similar goals with their partners and together they can both achieve their career dreams.
7. FOR AFFECTION:
This is the most common motive (excuse in my own opinion) of getting marriage, but has revealed in this article, the earlier stated reasons of getting married are the hidden or unsaid reasons of why people marry. Yet some people genuinely fall in love and really want to spend the rest of their lives with each other. So they marry and live happily in love Read: 7 Reasons why single women reject men.
